Bill Deane is pictured with an 8-foot-tall tree he made of copper, outside his Papillion, Neb., home on Sept. 29, 2004. Every leaf of the tree is engraved with a name of a U.S. or coalition soldier killed in Iraq. Deane put his sheet metal skills to work for a U.S. contractor and spent the past year in Iraq, bringing cool mechanical breezes to troops who routinely endure temperatures of 120 degrees and higher.
